A very well related mare being the first foal out of a 140-rated black-type performer, Somewhat Cloudy has to be given a great deal of credit for her debut effort in defeat in a Tipperary point-to-point bumper. Driven into the home straight, she responded very strongly to that pressure by quickly coming through to launch her challenge before staying on all the way to the line and move into the second spot close home. Given that she was having to concede the welter burden of 19lbs to her one year younger rival, a very well-related half-sister to leading Irish National contender Run Wild Fred, this has to be considered a very promising effort on debut. With her dam having been at her best over staying trips, the evidence of her Tipperary performance also suggests that she looks every inch a horse who will excel when stepping up in trip.
