Walkinthemournes began a strong start to the new season for her handler when winning the opening race of the campaign at Toomebridge last month. This was her very first start, and she jumped and travelled well throughout in the rain-softened conditions. Content to chase the front pair, once the favourite departed four-out, Declan Lavery soon sent her to the front, where consecutive swift leaps saw her immediately kick on. From this point, the race was effectively over as a contest, as she was able to return at her ease, recording a six-length victory over a horse that has since backed up the performance by again finishing second in Toomebridge.
