Nikolavs Otto stood out as a particularly eye-catching second on debut at Umma House last month. The €40,000 store purchase, who had been sent off as the favourite, made an almost race ending mistake at only the second fence. With his rider allowing his mount to recover, he began to improve his position inside the final mile. However, he still found himself in sixth position leaving the back straight. His progress continued in the home straight, and despite still finding himself in fourth jumping the last, he powered up the run-in, charging between rivals, to finish a fast-finishing second, going down by just half-a-length to an always prominent winner. Given the severity of his early mistake, his recovery and all that he will have learnt with this initial effort. The expectation would have to be that he should be well up to winning his maiden in the coming weeks and looks a smart track prospect in the future.
