Race To Base made a winning start to his career at Loughanmore in a four-year-old maiden which is typically always targeted by handlers with some of their nicer prospects. This Vadamos gelding was patiently ridden, anchored at the rear of the field, as the two principals cut out the running. Always kept wide, he made good ground along the back straight to get himself into contention, and he was keeping on strongly when the leader departed that the last. That left him disputing the advantage, but he had to be tough to get the better of the strongly-fancied favourite, with a notable ten lengths back to the third. It should also be noted that he clocked a time 13 seconds quicker than the average on the card, which all bodes well for his future.
