Few young horses have produced as impressive a round of jumping at Tinahely as that of Purple Owl last month. The Wicklow course does not present a simple test of jumping for a young horse, with the course situated on the side of a hill, ensuring there are two downhill fences, followed by three fences on a stiff climb in the home straight. That proved to be no challenge to the son of Elusive Pimpernel, as he jumped like a seasoned professional, gaining lengths from his rivals at each obstacle. That proved to be a real asset as he gamely went on to record a one-length success, and that style of jumping will really stand to him as he progresses to the racecourse.
