Clody Diamond is a mare who was unlucky not to have opened her account at an earlier point. The daughter of Diamond Boy was still travelling strongly on her second career start at Taylorstown in the spring only to be badly hampered, unseating her rider in the process at the third-last fence. Returning from the summer break, she was sent off as a well-supported even-money favourite at Toomebridge when running a race full of promise to finish second in what has proven to be a strong early-season maiden. The horse that finished some eight lengths behind her came out and won at Loughanmore on her very next start, and Clody Diamond herself became the second subsequent maiden winner to emerge from the race when she hacked up at Umma House. In a slight change of tactics, she was ridden with more patience on her latest outing, and once moving to the front early in the home straight, the race was soon over as a contest, as she sauntered to a nine-length success, without having to be asked a serious question. In beating a €52,000 store purchase with such ease, she marked herself out as a very progressive individual.
