Bonapartes Retreat put in a faultless display when opening his account at Castletown-Geoghegan on the opening weekend of the season. Jumping well from the front, the Sholokhov gelding began to put his rivals to the sword leaving the back straight, with his jumping really proving to be a valuable asset. He took lengths out of his main dangers at the all-important second-last fence, and that was key, as although those in behind tried to close again early in the straight, it was eye-catching that he was able to pick up a second time to win going away. Given the round of jumping that he produced, he is an ideal candidate for anyone looking for an exciting chaser for the future.
