After finishing a very encouraging third at Castletown-Geoghegan on his debut behind more experienced types including a horse who had previously been placed in three maiden hurdles, Captain Broomfield built on that initial effort in the manner that had been expected by winning a Dromahane maiden last Sunday on his very next start. A brother to Captain Guinness who had won the Grade 3 Poplar Square Chase at Naas on the previous afternoon, the Arakan gelding travelled best of all around the home bend, where despite being forced to make his ground three wide, he swiftly came alongside to dispute the advantage. Once taking control of the race from the penultimate fence he swiftly put the race to bed and was always holding his rivals to the line to win with what looked to be a bit in hand.
