From a stable that have a notable record of horse’s that go on and win on the track, with the likes of Methodtothemadness, Lucky Flight and Buddha Scheme winning in recent weeks, Hand In My Pocket is sure to be a horse that will be considered by many. A half-sister to Winter Getaway, a dual winning pointer from last season who recently opened her account over hurdles for Philip Hobbs, this daughter of Mahler has to be considered quite unfortunate here. Always in the first third of the field, she tracked the front pair into the home straight, before making a bad mistake at the third last. This saw her lose valuable momentum and briefly drop back into fifth. To her credit, she powered home and was finishing best of all, whittling down the advantage to the previously-placed winner, to cross the line just two lengths in arrears of her. With the first and third horses having had the benefit of a previous run, and the third entering the race having finished just three lengths behind the impressive Brave Way two weeks earlier, there was certainly a great deal of promise to take from this effort.
