Bold Soldier made his debut at Portrush when positioned on the heels of the leaders in what was a steadily run race. The son of Kayf Tara, who was ridden by a 5lb claiming novice rider, found himself shuffled back a position or two just before the leader began to make his move at the end of the back straight, which certainly looked costly by the end of the race, given how powerfully he stayed on in the home straight. Finding himself in sixth position rounding the home bend, he immediately began to pick off rivals over the final two fences, as he stayed on with real purpose, finishing the race just two lengths in arrears of the more experienced race winner.
