Peter’s Portrait could not have made a better start to his racing career, winning a five-year-old maiden at Moira at the first time of asking. Dropped out by Harley Dunne, the Portrait Gallery gelding always travelled strongly, picking off rivals one-by-one on the climb to the top of the hill, to land with the advantage over the penultimate fence. Despite his lack of any previous racing experience, as the sole newcomer in the race, Peter’s Portrait stuck to his task well and was always holding the runner-up, to prevail by one and a-half lengths.
