The Richard Black-trained Hacksaw Ridge got off the mark at the second time of asking when winning the four-year-old maiden at Inchydoney by a length and a half. Ridden Barry O'Neill, this son of Stowaway hit the front three from home and despite erring slightly at two fences in the home straight, the bay gelding quickened up to line to win comfortably. Having made his debut in a contest which had produced a host of winners at Borris House, this €47,000 store looks to be a progressive sort. Out of a four-time winner, the bay gelding could well develop into a very decent prospect in between the rails for new connections in the future.
