The Benny Walsh – trained Jovial Spirit finished third on his only start to date in the four-year-old geldings’ maiden at Loughrea. The son of Doyen was given a positive ride and although the debutant jumped well throughout, he was sometimes doing a little too much in the hands of Benny Walsh himself. To his credit the bay ran well for a long way, still holding every chance jumping the penultimate obstacle only to tire a little in the home straight. Only beaten nine lengths at the line, this four-year-old looks open to plenty of improvement as he gains more experience and could certainly develop into a smart sort in the future.
