Making his debut in a big field 15-runner maiden at Ballindenisk earlier this month, Romany King was lucky to still remain in the race after a serious blunder at the opening obstacle, but he showed a great attitude to overcome that early scare to make all the running. Dictating the tempo from the head of the field, it was only approaching the elbow in the home straight that he really began to increase the pace, finding generously when asked to extend. He was, however, strongly pressed by a more experienced rival yet showed great toughness to battle when challenged to make the perfect start to his career, with the front pair pulling 17 lengths clear of the remainder.
