Northern Reel is a horse that was still in contention when exiting on each of her opening two races at Loughanmore and Turtulla, but she more than made amends with a four-length victory in a four-year-old mares’ maiden at Tattersalls last month. Always to the fore around the big galloping track, the Jet Away mare travelled best to the home bend only to stumble here which cost her valuable momentum and put her on the back foot. She gamely rallied well under pressure and overcame stumbling a second time whilst being challenged approaching the final fence to win decisively going away on the climb to the line. Not only did she show a smart cruising speed along the side of the track, but she also stayed on best of all up the hill to suggest that she has all the attributes to develop into a successful track performer.
