Saladins Son could not have enjoyed a better start to his career when winning a four-year-old maiden at Tattersalls last month to continue a good season for his handler Maike Magnussen. His rider always looked to be full of confidence through the race as they easily overcame a mistake at the fourth-last, and although he came under pressure entering the straight, once switched back to the inside he responded immediately to the extent that he won decisively going away at the line by two and a half lengths from two well-bred rivals that had cost €48,000 as a store and €42,000 as a foal respectively. The clock backed up the impression that he had given, as he clocked a time that was 12 seconds quicker than the day’s average and eight seconds quicker than any other race on the card, all the more notable given the number of younger age maidens run at the fixture. He has the look of a smart prospect.
