The Colin McKeever-trained Folcano was an unlucky individual, who came to grief twice at the penultimate fence during the autumn season, including an eye-catching debut at Turtulla where he had seemed destined to chase home Bob Olinger, one of standout four-year-old winners of the pre-Christmas campaign. Patiently ridden by Stephen O’Connor, the son of Falco came from off the pace in the final mile where he began to move closer when jumping the third last, making good progress all the while to the last, a better jump here saw him hit the ground running to come home one-and-a -half lengths in front of the Colin Bowe-trained Kilbeg King. This bay gelding is a half-brother to the 2018 Triumph Hurdle winner, Farclas and proved here that he stays strongly and looks sure to enjoy plenty of success under rules.
