Hidden Commander got off the mark at the second time of asking when capturing the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Borris House. The son of Shirocco was patiently ridden by Aaron Sinnott and made a significant move after being somewhat hampered by the minor mistake of Pay The Piper at the fourth-last. The gelding then went to the head of affairs at the end of the back straight where after jumping the next, he had looked up against it to reel in the pace-setter, but to his credit, he stuck dourly to his task. He hit the ground running after jumping the penultimate fence and was able to get the better of the runner-up Flame Bearer before the line. The five-year-old is a half-brother of recent Paddy Power Chase winner Roaring Bull, who has highlighted himself as a strong stayer and could well develop into a decent prospect for new connections in the future.
