The Warren Ewing-trained Will Carver got off the mark at the third time of asking when running out an emphatic winner of the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Kirkistown. The son of Califet, who had finished within ten lengths of the winner when fourth at Dromahane in December showed the benefit of this experience in this contest. The five-year-old was bounced out to make all and clearly relished dictating the pace from the front under Jordan Gainford. Once turning into the home straight on the final circuit, he quickened away smartly, ultimately crossing the line with six lengths to spare to win in good style. Out of a half-sister to five-time winning John Magical, this bay gelding seems to be a versatile sort, who looks to have the potential to develop into a smart track performer that can further add to this winning family.
