Magnificent Ben heads to the sales following his debut success in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Cragmore. The son of San Frontieres was patiently ridden in mid-division in the hands of John Barry for much of the contest, before making good headway when coming from off the pace at the halfway point, to then progress to lead after jumping the penultimate fence, where he quickened away to get the better off the more-experienced Bourban Street by two lengths, with a further ten lengths back to the third placed finisher. Hailing from a family with a strong pedigree that includes seven-time track winner The Merry Mason, Magnificent Ben is bred to develop into a smart track sort and should prove capable of sampling middle distance track success under rules, who could have a lot to offer to new connections it seems.
