The well-related Kaka’s Cousin, who is out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1-winning Oscar Whisky, was bought for €62,000 at the store sales last year, and having fallen with over a mile to race on his debut at Loughrea in May, he showed what he is capable of at Boulta last Saturday, when just missing out on a maiden victory by the narrowest of margins. Never too far from the pace, he loomed alongside the leader at the penultimate fence, and having got the measure of that rival, a €100,000 Derby Sale purchase, he then faced the challenge of a new rival at the final fence. To his credit, he battled all the way to the line, only missing out by a short-head whilst closing all the time against a more experienced rival. Given that the race clocked the quickest time on the card, he looks like a winning in waiting.
