Plains Drifter came home with a flourish on his debut to finish a close third at Moig South last month. Moig South has a good record of producing deep four-year-old races, and last year’s edition of this particular auction maiden was won by the recent 12-length Ascot maiden hurdle winner First Confession. Plains Drifter came under pressure leaving the back straight, but he showed a great attitude to come home strongly after an error two-out to be only beaten two and a half lengths at the line by two more experienced horses, who had each had the benefit of running in the spring. With this initial effort under his belt, he would certainly be expected to step forward.
