Maribeth certainly has the look of an above-average mare having opened her account in impressive fashion at Boulta just last Saturday. A €58,000 purchase from last year’s Derby sale, the daughter of Diamond Boy only found one rival too good on her debut in Curraghmore, with her conqueror subsequently selling for £170,000 at the November sale in Cheltenham. Unlucky not to immediately go one place better when the chief sufferer of trouble in running on the flat in Turtulla, she duly made amends at Boulta. Here she always travelled well, cruising into a share of the lead entering the home straight. From here she was strongly challenged by a €50,000 store sale purchase as the pair powered clear of their rivals. Maribeth showed a very likeable attitude to answer every question asked of her and outbattle that rival to win by a half-a-length.
