Champagne Gold ran a cracker when second in a four-year-old maiden at Boulta in December. The son of Presenting had the benefit of two previous outings, most recently when finishing fourth to Scene Not Herd at Turtulla back in November. The Roisin Hickey-trained gelding was always on the pace and he went for home before three-out, he headed the leader at the penultimate fence to go on and battle gamely on the flat all the way to line to finish just two lengths behind the winner, Clondaw Secret. This bay gelding is out of a half-sister to 14-time track winner Bibbap and having posted such a strong run, this well-bred sort lost little in defeat and is a very likeable youngster with a lot to offer it seems.
