Sir Sholokhov was the only newcomer to win on the eight-race card at Mainstown, as he got the better of the four-times previously raced Here We Have It. The son of Sholokhov could well have been considered an unlucky loser had he not managed to get his head in front, as he tried to make his move on the downhill run to the final fence, only to have his intended passage blocked by two horses in front of him, which forced his rider Shane Ftizgerald to switch him to the inside. That left him still in fourth jumping the penultimate fence, before he stayed on strongly reeling in the leader all the way to the line, getting his head in front in the dying strides.
