Whitechurch got off the mark at the third time of asking when coming home in front in the five-and-six-year old geldings’ maiden at Tinahely. The son of Scorpion had finished second on his debut at Portrush behind Hard Ground, and he bounced back from a third-placed effort at Knockinroe, which had come just eight days after that initial outing. Returning after a three-week break, the five-year-old gelding jumped his way to the front at the fourth-last, from where he was never headed. His jumping was notably assured, ensuring that he was very professional in that department, and it is an asset that will stand to him in future. He asserted on the flat after jumping the second-last, to go on and quicken away from his rivals in the closing stages where he ran out a promising six-length winner.
