Alko Rouge was desperately unlucky to come to grief at the final fence when 20 lengths clear in the first division of the four-year-old maiden at Corbeagh House. Having set a relentless gallop under Barry Stone, the son of Balko soon raced a distance clear of his rivals. However the four-year-old showed no signs of stopping in the closing stages, having travelled strongly into the home straight. While his rivals attempted to reduce the deficit, they were making little impact when the imposing sort knuckled and slipped at the back of the last when looking set to come home a wide-margin winner. Not only was this four-year-old destined for victory, he looked assured to set by far the fastest time of the day, reflecting the strong pace of the contest. Considering his dam has already bred an eight-time track winner, this Baltimore Stables gelding looks to have a very exciting future ahead of him.
