Sammy Bill made a very taking debut in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Rathcannon. The son of Black Sam Bellamy was ridden by Chris O’Dononvan, who gave the good-jumping sort a very positive ride. Having made most of the running, Johnny Hurley’s charge still held the advantage jumping the last before tiring on the run-in. Considering the gelding was only headed in the dying strides, this was a taking performance from a horse having his first start. A well-bred sort who cost €50,000 as a store, the bay is from a family of winners and should have a big future over obstacles.
