Mount Rushmoore made his debut a winning one when he took his five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Ballindenisk in December. Tracking the leader for much of the race, Mount Rushmoore produced a strong challenge before the penultimate fence where he went onto take up the lead. He was forced to battle hard to the line following some strong challenges from the final fence but he held onto win by a head over some more experienced rivals. One of four newcomers in the race, the Richard Black-trained winner is a half-brother to the Graded performer Who’s That who was a consistent servant for her connections as well as being from the family of some decent flat performers in Country Gentleman and March Wonder to name just a few and looks like a gelding that can develop into a smart track performer.
