Chase The Moon is a horse that put up a taking effort on debut with the Sea Moon gelding making his competitive bow in a Monksgrange four-year-old maiden renowned for producing smart prospects. Always to the fore, he kicked on climbing out of the back straight and soon had his rivals under pressure to give chase. This included a well-bred horse of JP McManus and the previously placed Colin Bowe-trained Argento Royale. They were unable to match his kick for him, with only the €90,000 store purchase Hernando De Soto able to challenge him. Showing great battling qualities, he still held the runners-up position when coming down at the final fence. The race winner, who was just three lengths in front of him at the time of his departure, was subsequently bought by Gordon Elliott for £230,000, so Chase The Moon is sure to be on plenty of shortlists.
