Out of a half-sister to the recent Grade 1 Manifesto Novice Chase runner-up Gidleigh Park, Ubatuba went in plenty of notebooks on his debut as he was still going very well when unseating three-out in a 14-runner four-year-old maiden at Dromahane. He swiftly made amends on his very next start when winning cosily at Daramona House. Again patiently ridden, he cut through the field along the back straight, before a number of spring-heeled leaps on the final circuit, saw him fend off a persistent JP McManus-owned rival. By the line he won going away, and the form has already been franked, producing a subsequent maiden winner, whilst the fourth horse has gone on to finish placed since too. That all gives great confidence to the winning performance that he produced.
