This homebred son of Balko made his debut at Daramona House where he was running a promising race and was in sixth spot when cruelly running out with a circuit to go. The good-looking bay reappeared in a five-and-six-year-old geldings’ maiden at Oldcastle a fortnight later, where he had little difficulty in gaining compensation. Ridden towards the pace, Newbrook Diamond fenced fluently throughout and showed a nice turn of foot to beat favourite Court Compliance by two lengths at the line. Out of two-time NH winner Really Royale, he is a half-brother to three track winners. On the evidence of his two starts to date, Newbrook Diamond will progress into a nice track recruit.
